Version VersionOur 2008 tandem meeting will take place in Löhne-Gohfeld giving us the opportunity to cycle through the lovely wind mill area Minden-Lübbecke, but we will also get quickly to the hills of the Weserbergland and can ride along the range Wiehengebirge. The "Kaiser-Wilhelm" Monument close to the town Porta Westfalica and, to the opposite direction, the Extern stones as well as the "Hermann" Monument near Detmold can be visited. Further sights are the Castle Iggenhausen, the forestry museum Kalletal, or the animal park Kalletal. As during the past years, we will again try to offer a family ride as well as medium and long rides each day.
We will be based at the youth hostel "Carl Schreck Haus" which is a hostel of the nature friends.

The youth hostel is located in the densely wooded valley Mittelbachtal in a region called Gohfelder
Schweiz, 125 m asl. The mixed forest valley is situated in a so-called "Siek", a wetland which
over the years has become a retreat area for animals and plants. Close to the house at the brook
Mittelbach there's a big playground for children of all ages, and a biotope with ponds. A nature
trail with 10 tablets leads through the valley.
The house offers 36 beds in seven 2-, two 3- and four 4-bed rooms. There is also space for two
mobile homes.
A sauna can be used for a flat fee.
Please note: all overnight accommodation are booked (15/01/2008)! But we have a

You can gather the meals that will be served from the following list. As usual, we will order meals that will be specifically prepared to meet cyclists' needs. Vegetarian alternatives shall also be available.
The most favourable train station is Löhne in less than 3 miles distance from the
hostel (see map directions) as it is connected to the West,
East, and South. Another option is the station Bad Oeynhausen which is quite as close. From
Osnabrück main station (North-South axis of the intercity rail traffic) it is a 39 miles tandem
ride (see OVL / sketch).
Arrival will be on Wednesday, 30th April, with dinner served from 6 p.m.
Departure is on Sunday, 4th May, after breakfast.
Our three day rides each will take us through the surrounding area, using
mainly minor roads or the North-Rhine Westfalian cycling network. There will be a short family
ride, a medium and a long ride each day. The long routes will be led rides. The family rides will
only have a leader if enough people join these groups. For the medium and the family rides GPS files
and route maps will be made available for printing in good time.
The rides will be on Thu 1st / Fri 2nd / Sat 3rd May 2008.
Care will be taken to ensure suitability for families and children:
Distance and speed of these rides will be somewhere between the family and long rides. They are therefore suitable for the faster families, and adult teams taking it a bit easier.
There will be three rides covering a distance of about 60 miles, averaging 12 - 14 mls/hr. Additional food will be bought from bakeries along the way, we will also stop at interesting points en route. After all, we will be on holiday, not on the run.

Surcharge for four nights in 2-bed room: 12 EUR/person
Cost includes bed linen, towels are not included. 4.50 EUR will be refunded on the spot if you bring
your own bed linen.
Reduction if you sleep in your own mobile home: 5 EUR/person
The dinner on Sat, 3rd May, is not included as we plan to go to a local Italian
restaurant (not obligatory and at one's own expense).

actual cost and the payment details. The booking will become valid after payment has been received.
Final date for your booking is 29th February 2008.
Guests are welcome to join the rides (organisational contribution: 6 EUR/ride/tandem, 3 EUR/ride/tandem for Tandem Club or CTC members).
