Spring Tandem Meeting 2010 Ratingen
12th May - 16th May 2010

German Flag GE Version

Our 2010 tandem meeting will take place in Ratingen giving us the opportunity to test our up- and downhill riding skills in the area "Bergisches Land", but of course there will also be less hilly alternatives in the Rhein and Ruhr valleys. We will have the chance to visit a few places of interest, from the Neanderthal to industrial heritage. As during the past years, we will again try to offer a family ride as well as medium and long rides each day.

Accommodation

JH Ratingen We will be based at the youth hostel in Ratingen. Please do not contact them directly!

The youth hostel is located 2 km outside the historical town centre of Ratingen. It is situated within the protected nature reserve Angertal amidst a high oak forest with old tree population.

The house offers 52 beds in eight 2-, four 3- and six 4-bed rooms. There is also space for three mobile homes.

Please note: all rooms are booked (21/12/2009)! Alternativ there is a hotel near by (Hotel Jägerhof).

Catering

You can gather the meals that will be served from the following list. As usual, we will order meals that will be specifically prepared to meet cyclists' needs. Vegetarian alternatives shall also be available.

Getting there

Ratingen has a suburban rail station only. The next main stations are Düsseldorf and Duisburg. The cycling distance from there to the youth hostel is about 10 to 20 km. Alternatively, a suburban train to the stop "Ratingen Ost" can be taken. For planning your journey, please check the website of Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival will be on Wednesday, 12th May, with dinner served from 7 p.m. Departure is on Sunday, 16th May, after breakfast.

Rides

Our three day rides each will take us through the surrounding area, using mainly minor roads or the regional cycling network. There will be a short family ride, a medium and a long ride each day. For all rides GPS files and PDF route maps will be made available for printing in good time. Some of the routes will be led rides.

The rides will be on Thu 13th / Fri 14th / Sat 15th May 2010.

Family rides

Care will be taken to ensure suitability for families and children:

Medium rides

Distance and speed of these rides will be somewhere between the family and long rides. They are therefore suitable for the faster families, and adult teams taking it a bit easier.

Long rides

There will be three rides covering a distance of about 60 miles, averaging 12 - 14 mls/hr. Additional food will be bought from bakeries along the way, we will also stop at interesting points en route. After all, we will be on holiday, not on the run.
